It’s always such a pleasure to care for slightly more unusual pets. Birds are not the ‘bird-brained’ creatures that humans often paint them. This little chap had a less-than-perfect life before the clients added him to their large rescue flock. Once he gets to know you, he comes for his regular cuddle – even lifting wings so you can get at the hard-to-reach places. All of these clients’ birds are allowed to fly free indoors at some point in the day; many live permanently outside their cages as the clients regard keeping birds alone or perpetually caged as cruelty. Care even extends to rescued wild birds who are allowed to live out their lives in safety in the beautiful garden. Apparently Rio (and the other birds) remembers the sitters who fill in whilst mum and dad are away. I’m always honoured that I’m allowed the privilege of helping with the grooming
